Inspired by the questions of a little girl two years ago, Jacky carved this sycamore tree into a unicorn: the symbol of innocence and purity. Her research has revealed that the unicorn was thought originally to be a goat (it is shown with cloven hooves in medieval manuscripts), and is associated with the moon. On the reverse side of the trunk, Jacky has carved some of the many flowers with symbolic meaning found in medieval tapestries and manuscripts. For example, mint which guards against poison.
